More than 2,000 customers without power in SLO
More than 2,300 PG&E customers lost power in San Luis Obispo. The cause of the outage remains under investigation. This is the fourth time this month that PG&E customers in the Laguna Lake Park area lost power. PG&E officials point at a new “fast trip” feature that automatically shuts off power when an object strikes a line in order to prevent equipment-sparked wildfires. Because of this, a tree branch or a bird hitting a wire can lead to a power outage.

Extreme weather drives more major power outages
Large-scale power outages are becoming more common across the country and in Maine as extreme weather, stoked by a warming climate, knocks out electricity to wider swaths of people. Between 2000 and 2021 some 83 percent of reported major outages in the U.S. were attributed to weather-related events, including hurricanes, severe winds and ice storms, according to data by Climate Central.- Those outages affected 50,000 or more people for an hour or longer.

Power Outage at Austin Airport Provokes Flight Chaos
Austin-Bergstrom International Airport lost power, leading to cancelled flights and frustrated flyers during the facility’s busiest time of day. The outage was caused when underground equipment malfunctioned, electricians used fault indicators — devices that light up to indicate a circuit issue — to isolate the cause of the problem. Crews completed repairs and restored power to the airport a couple of hours later. Ninety flights were cancelled as passengers were stranded in the dark.

Thousands without power in California
Thousands of customers were without power in California due to the intensifying record heat wave that's hitting much of the U.S. West. Nearly 67,000 Californian customers were without power. Ongoing power outages were affecting over 40,000 Pacific Gas and Electric Company customers across 28 counties, mostly in the San Francisco Bay Area's Contra Costa County, per a PG&E update. Californian officials declared a power grid emergency earlier Monday due to the threats posed by the extreme heat.

Thousands in Michigan Without Power After Midwest Storms
Severe thunderstorms in northwest Ohio and southern Michigan knocked out power for hundreds of thousands of customers throughout the region. The impact of the storm system extended south into Arkansas, where heavy rainfall and flash flooding swept through the northern part of the state, said Joe Sellers, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. Power was restored through some areas a couple of hours later, after the storm knocked out electricity to more than 600,000.

More than 4,400 Mohave Electric Cooperative members were without power after major storms blew through the Tri-state, leaving damage in their wake.
